National Missing Persons Day – February 3rd

TEXSAR to Honor National Missing Persons Day at Texas State Capitol

Austin, TX –  February 3, 2026 – Texas Search and Rescue (TEXSAR) will gather with families, advocates, and search and rescue professionals on the South Steps of the Texas State Capitol to recognize National Missing Persons Day and stand in solidarity with missing individuals and the families who continue to search for answers.

This public event will raise awareness, share resources, and reaffirm a collective commitment to ensuring the missing are never forgotten. Speakers will highlight the human impact of missing persons cases and the importance of coordinated response, advocacy, and continued support.

Guest speakers include:

  • Leemie Kahng-Sofer, Executive Director of Case Management & Texas Regional Office, National Center for Missing & Exploited Children

  • Melissa Turnquist, CEO, Texas Center for the Missing

  • Jo Ann Lowitzer, mother of Ali Lowitzer, missing since 2010

  • Connie Branham, mother of Christopher Branham, Advocate for the Missing

  • Patrick Turck, Director, Missing Persons Unit, TEXSAR

Additional speakers and supporters will join throughout the program.

TEXSAR proudly serves agencies and organizations involved in missing persons cases across Texas. In 2023, TEXSAR formally established its Missing Persons Unit, led by former detective Patrick Turck, to support coordinated search operations and investigative efforts alongside local, state, and national partners.

“National Missing Persons Day is about remembrance, awareness, and action,” said Turck. “It’s a reminder that behind every case is a family, and that collaboration and persistence matter.”
