TEXSAR is hosting a Basic Visual Tracking course instructed by Fernando Moreira of Worldwide Trackers. The course is designed to train SAR personnel in the fundamentals of tracking. The course aims to familiarize personnel with the tracking concepts through practical field work and exercises. Students are exposed to the curriculum through 4 hours of classroom instruction and 16 hours of time in the field.
Dates: This will be a 3-day course held Monday October 9th, 2023 thru Wednesday October 11th, 2023.
Location: Central Division – Austin, TX
Prerequisites: Students must be in the SAR Responder tier prior to the start of course.
Scheduling/Cancelations: This course will be held rain or shine through numerous operational periods with time allotted for meals.
Cost: $150
TEXSAR fundraising scholarship funds may applied to the cost of this course. Students can check their scholarship fund balance on their SIMS profile.
Note:
This is a special class for TEXSAR. No refund will be granted.
“Auditing” of this course will not be allowed.

- Tracking stick (38-42” long)
- Rubber bands/castration bands
- Signal mirror
- Small tape measure
- Flashlight
- Knee pads
- One package (100) bamboo skewers.
- Bug spray
- Sunscreen
- Camp chair
Specific location and class details will be emailed to registrants approximately one week prior to the start of class.
If your schedule permits, please consider taking this weekday version of this course rather than the Friday-Sunday version.
