TEXSAR is hosting a Flood Evacuation Boat Operator Course instructed by Wimberley Rescue/Rescue3.  The course is designed to train rescue personnel in handling motorized boats during flood operations. Students are exposed to a number of topics including types of motorized boats suitable for water rescue, boat handling on still or slowly moving water, crew roles, boat safety and problem solving.

Prerequisites: Prior to signing up for this course, you must meet the following: 

  • Certified Swiftwater Rescue Technician (SRT)
    • Given the lack of available water classes lately, members with expired SRT classes will be allowed to attend.

Scheduling: This will be a 2-day course held Saturday July 29th – Sunday July 30th.
The course is held rain or shine, hot or cold, and will include night exercises.
4 total operational periods:

  • Saturday 1200 – 1400 Hrs
  • Saturday 1500 – 1900 Hrs
  • Saturday 2100 – 2300 Hrs 
  • Sunday 0900 – 1200 Hrs

*Times listed are approximate. There will be a 1-hour lunch break each day. End times may vary based on the pace of the class. 

Cost: $235

Your accrued TEXSAR fundraising scholarship funds may be applied to the cost of this course.

IMPORTANT – This is a special class for TEXSAR. No refunds will be granted. 

Attire/Equipment

  • Type III or Type V Personal Floatation Device
  • Helmet
  • Helmet lamp
  • Water

Recommended: 

  • Long sleeves
  • Bug spray
  • Suncreen

Note: This floodwater certification can be upgraded to Flood and Swiftwater Boat Operator once water flow rates allow appropriate training.
